Anyone Else Find This… Oh, I Don’t Know… Desperate?

Shooting Yourself In The Foot

So WOW has now resorted to bribing tanks and healers… What-evah!  How about figuring out why people tend to shun those two particular classes and addressing that?  The WoW crowd has no one to blame but themselves…

Looks like someone needs to desperately work on their Hit Rating.

    And bandaging.

Desperate? Not so much. Disgusting? Very.

    LOL @ hit rating!

Ok, now two of you have mentioned hit rating… and I’m confused. What do you guys mean? The guy who shot his foot off or are you guys referring to me? As in I posted that picture to get more hits?

And what’s disgusting? The pic? The fact that WoW has resorted to bribes? Or both?

The pic. The hit rating joke is about the guy who shot his foot (in the picture). He needs more hit rating to get higher accuracy. lolol

It’s a path of least resistance thing.

As DPS you’re rewarded by obvious and bigger numbers. Not a lot is required of you – you just need to do lots of damage… maybe get out of the way or the odd CC (neither of which was needed for Wrath).

Tanking or healing has responsibility and takes a lot of blame. It’s also not as easy to measure because the numbers aren’t as obvious – if you’re bad DPS, someone can compensate. If you’re a bad tank, people die. If you’re a bad healer, people die.

DPS = big numbers, fun and low responsibility – do damage, make stuff dead.
Tank = more responsibility, more blame, no big numbers to oogle.
Healer = more responsibility, more blame, no big numbers to oogle – well, you might get a heal crit or something but no one is going to remember that or get excited because it was probably an overheal.

To some degree it’s a matter of use/overlap. Most raids only need two tanks or a couple of healers and fill the rest out with DPS so it stands to reason there would be a shortage. For 10 man raids, this is a better ratio; 2 tanks, 5-6 dps, 2-3 healers. In 25 man raids, you still have around 2 tanks, 3-5 healers and 18-20 DPS. Bad ratio for breaking into groups later.

Both of these points have been true for just about every MMO I’ve played.

Hi Smak! Welcome to the blog!

I find myself in agreement with what you are saying.

I firmly believe and stand by my statement that this is a problem (inadvertently) created by WOW and it’s player base.

To contrast, back in EQ & EQ2 days, the right to tank was something people fought over. It was a coveted position in any group. Not to say that whiners weren’t around back then, but often blame could be specifically attributed to a particular member in your group, not just the tanks or the healers because back then it took an entire group to succeed. I don’t know if that makes sense or if I’m explaining myself correctly.

Healing was still a pretty thankless task, but mostly because you were too much in demand, not necessarily because you’d catch the blame if something went wrong.
