Shame On You TRION ~ I Like You a Little Less Today.

March 2, 2011

Up until now I had only heard (and believed) good things about TRION and especially their Customer Service department.  But after reading THIS thread on the Official RIFT Forums I have to strongly disagree, and re-think my position.

It basically boils down to this (according to the OP):

#1. We are a small guild usually between 5 and 20 depending on the game. There have been times during some games when there are too few of us and we join other guilds. So we have not used this guild name in EVERY game we have played. We have used this name since Ultima Online off and on.

#2. We know there is another guild using the same name and purposley go to different servers to avoid this sort of thing. Before launch this guild public posted on the server forums where they were going so we decided to go to a different server Lotham because that’s were we had told our friends and allied guilds we were going to play.

#3. On opening day of headstart we registered the guild name.

#4. On day 2 of headstart we noticed that we had been disbanded and could not re-register the name. We also noticed the other guild on our server.

Assuming this is true, and it seems that is, I have to say that in my 12 years of playing MMO’s,  I have NEVER, EVER heard of such a BULLSHIT decision by an in-game GM supported by an equally full-of-shit gloss over such as the one below written by Ms. Cindy Bowens:

This situation was thoroughly investigated by the head of our CS department. After reviewing all information coming from various individuals, guilds and forum posts on a number of sites, a determination was made in regards to who should rightfully have the guild name. We have again reviewed the circumstances and details and we stand by our decision.

CS decisions are not always popular with those involved and it is common to bring such issues to the forum. Since this issue has been investigated, addressed and is final, we will now be closing this thread.

Now I don’t know about you, but I’d be mad as HELL if that happened to my guild (and I bet you would be too).  The only thing that should matter in this case is WHO registered the guild name FIRST once the game went “live” in the Headstart. Anything else is just showing a preference for one side or the other.

And I’m sure there will be the fanboi’s (yeah, you know who you are) who will vehemently defend the actions of the CS department… Whatever.

What I’d like to ask these folks is what is (or rather WAS) the official policy on guilds and guild names?  I bet it’s something along the lines of “first-come-first-serve”.

If so, then shame on you TRION.  Your CS dept. has just taken a huge hit, not only with me, but with just about 90% of the posters on that 61 page thread who sympathized with the OP.  That you closed the thread says even more about you than your defense of the obviously wrong decision made by your GM.  Here’s hoping you rectify this huge lapse in judgment and restore a lot of people’s faith in you guys.

“Assuming this is true” That is your problem right there. You are automatically assuming that Trion is making the wrong choice here. Did you do any investigation into this issue? Or are you just taking the OP’s word?

Well, I did put the word “assuming” there just for that reason that the OP might be lying. Look, the Goon Squad are known griefers. Why couldn’t they have just rolled on another server if their name was already taken on Lotham? Why did the little guy have to get the shaft?
